"On February 24, 2008, 60 Minutes delivered a bombshell – claims that President Bush’s political advisor Karl Rove had assigned an Alabama woman to tail Governor Don Siegelman and take photos of him having extramarital sex. The piece also presented an open and shut case that powerful Republicans – including Rove and Bob Riley, Siegelman’s successor as Alabama’s governor – had somehow ordered the Justice Department to prosecute Siegelman.
In this book, Eddie Curran -- the investigative reporter whose stories initiated the criminal investigation -- delivers a far different portrait of the one-time golden boy of Alabama Democratic politics. Curran leads readers on a first-person account of his discoveries, including Siegelman’s use of his office to collect more than $1.3 million in legal fees while governor; the sale of his home through a straw man for twice its value; and a host of scandals involving the likes of Waste Management Inc., and Richard Scrushy, the deeply corrupt HealthSouth Corp. chairman prosecuted along with Siegelman.
The Governor of Goat Hill is both a scathing portrayal of a “New South” governor gone bad and an indictment of some of the top names in American journalism, who bought into a bogus conspiracy for no reason other than it led to Karl Rove."

The Governor of Goat Hill eBook Eddie Curran

At 688 pages in the printed book and over 18,000 slides on a Kindle, this book is entirely too long. The author chose to self publish instead of having the book professionally edited. Because of that, parts of the book are hard to follow because the author veers off on different topics without fully addressing the initial topic and also repeats the same segments several times throughout the book. Being from Alabama however, it was interesting to get a better perspective on the events surrounding the corruption in the governor's administration. It is a good read if you have the time to invest in a book so long, but it would have been a better read had it been arranged better and professionally edited.

The Governor of Goat Hill eBook Eddie Curran Reviews

Should be required reading for every man, woman and child in Alabama. Outstanding! - a real page turner - we should be outraged and storm the halls of government all around the state -- don't believe this activity has stopped -- the state and local governments are still filled with corruption - and financed on the back of the taxpayer.
If you like politics and state politics this is a must read. Curran does a great job of not only reporting multiple attempts, by different people, but the style of these people and how their culture has to be an influence on them. It is all linked together. He almost says he is wrong a few times when his press right falls short. Being familiar with Alabama politics this "stuff" happens and will happen again bhecause too many opportunities are there. This book has the makings of a good movie, but would take the right one to do it. Their is a lot of information on each page and each chapter--after I had read the first 100+ pages I wondered what could be left in the next 500 pages-- plenty !!!!
Don't waste your time, slanted, partisan writing at it's worst. Definitely not journalism.
While this book could have been four books, it is not too long. It is a page-turner. It's a highly entertaining lesson on government. But most of all, it's a thought provoking casebook on investigative journalism wrapped in an intriguing tale of cynical political corruption. No space is wasted in 688 pages of what happened and how Eddie Curran uncovered it. Because the cast of characters is more numerous than War and Peace, I recommend the version with its handy search function.
For those who have followed Alabama politics for the past several years, this should be a must read book. Former Governor Siegelman's political and legal woes are well known, but this books lays out some aspects that may not have been publicized much during his term in office and his trial. It took me an unusually long time to read this book, but it was well worth it!
